James A. Lisi is a partner and valuation specialist at American ValueMetrics Corporation providing analytically sound, market based, legally defensible business valuation reports that meet USPAP and NACVA industry standards as well as regulatory requirements for the IRS, ERISA and DOL for privately held businesses.
Mr. Lisi has an MBA from UC Irvine and a BSIE from the University of Michigan and has been valuing businesses with American ValueMetrics since 2004. He began his career in aerospace manufacturing and marketing, and in 1991 was selected as a delegate to exchange business management information with companies in Russia, Latvia and Estonia following the fall of the Berlin Wall. He became responsible for strategic planning activities for his division in a Fortune 100 company in 1992. In 2001, he was hired as a consultant by a private equity firm to support the initial strategic planning effort following their acquisition of a $50 million aerospace firm. In 1997, he acquired his own company and led it for fifteen years before joining American ValueMetrics full time. He is also active on several non-profit boards of directors, where he has served as board president, executive secretary, treasurer and finance chair.

Personal note: I’ve been friends with founder Jerry Barney for over 15 years and was active in American ValueMetrics’ start in 2003. The team at AVM brings CEO insight, M&A, VC and legal experience to its valuations in a way that provides a superior tool to privately held firms.

I’m excited to move into this work full-time. It’s a growing field as private equity displaces IPOs for growth-stage funding and new IRS reporting requirements create a need for our services. Plus, it has always been an honor to provide valuations for business owners, as we serve a key role in advising at significant business and life decision times.
